ReVision and Respond

New Jersey Arts Annual 2021 asked artists to ‘ReVision and Respond’. /

As it often does during trying times, art reminds us that even when faced with an overwhelming sense of uncertainty, we’re not alone. A new collection at the Newark Museum of Art is displaying pieces from New Jersey artists’ revealing their deeply personal experiences of a pandemic year. They range from isolation and loss to a world where social justice is imagined.

In 2015 Cosentino founded ‘Community Design Prishtina’ (CDP), a venue for citizen involvement for design in the public realm in Kosovo. The CDP is based on similar model of ‘community design’ initiatives in the United States and Europe that promote and activate citizen-engaged, professionally directed design for the public realm. Community Design Prishtina works from principles promoted in the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) and the Association for Community Design (ACD). CDPlayground proposes to crowdfund a children’s playground renovation in the Tauk Bashçe neighborhood in Prishtina (not too far from Germia Park). This talk discusses the challenges and most recent developments of the project. Information about the CDPlayground effort can be found here: www.cdplayground.org.

in·ter·sect\ˌin-tər-ˈsekt\

Basile works, Herron. School of Art & Design, Indianapolis, IN. Video a SkyBlueWindow Production for WFYI, Indianapolis. /

The exhibit "in·ter·sect\ˌin-tər-ˈsekt\" explores how we communicate face-to-face and how technology, minus the human connection, transforms that experience. in·ter·sect / explores parallel processes present in the electronic and physical nature of modern interpersonal relationships. The work develops on themes of shared intimacy and emotional memory. Working in tandem with students enrolled in Stefan Petranek’s advanced digital course, Daniel Cosentino constructs a Pre-, Live- and Post-opening exhibition experience via mediums of video, performance and sculpture.

Disputed Histories Vol.03: FALSE TRUTHS

Special Guest at Disputed Histories Vol.03: FALSE TRUTHS

52nd October Salon, Museum of Yugoslav History / Belgrade /

Daniel Cosentino, via a SOROS foundation grant, brings a class of Albanian Kosovars to participate/create collaboratively with artist Vahida Ramujkic's exhibition and series "Disputed Histories" at the 52nd OCtober Salon in Belgrade, Serbia. The work of the partipants included pre, during and post production. The experience has been discussed by some former students as life altering. Vahida won the exhibition laureate prize at the Salon that year. "The disintegration of Yugoslavia initiates and finalizes with Kosovo. The differences in narratives between the Kosovo and Serbian versions are of the least transparent of all the spectrum of ex-yugoslavia. This might be due to language differences or to extremely bad political relations, resulting in Kosovo's official version never being considered or translated in Serbia. The aim of this workshop will be to comparatively read, translate and discuss recent Serbian and Kosovo history textbooks from very personalized points of view, building on our life experience and in the context of international events that shifted our contemplation of historic events and truth. Eg. Before the wall, between the wall and the towers, after the towers."
